People know that a standalone "Star Wars" spinoff movie on the character Han Solo is currently being planned. However, the fans were not aware of its premiere date until now.
Lawrence Kasdan, who recently received the first AJFF Icon Award for Contributions to the Cinematic Arts, revealed to Star Wars News Net that the solo Han Solo flick will hit the theatres in May 2018 and that the filming is expected to begin in London in January 2017.
That is, the Han Solo spinoff will premiere just a few months after Episode VIII's release and a year before Episode IX hit the box office. Han Solo's character is also expected to return in Episode VIII, which is slated for release in December 2017, despite the fact that he was brought to death by his son, Ben Solo, in Episode VII.
Kasdan is believed to have helped the character of Han Solo, played by actor Harrison Ford, give a standout performance in the Original "Star Wars" trilogy and Episode VII of the franchise, which was released back in December 2015. Kasdan co-wrote Episode VII and the first two films in the "Star Wars" trilogy.
"Chris Miller and Phil Lord are going to direct it," Kasdan said during the interview. "They're great, funny and imaginative, and we've had a great time together. My son and I wrote the script and Chris and Phil are working on it, and they're about to move to London to start shooting in January. And it should be fun."
The Han Solo spinoff is expected to be an interesting standalone movie. It will explore the life of the character and the adventurous events that take place before he finally meets Obi-Wan and Luke. Kasdan confirmed that Han Solo spinoff would definitely come before Episode IX hit the theatres.
According to Kasdan, he already knows what will happen in the upcoming Episodes VIII and IX. However, he made sure not to reveal any details or give any clue about the plot.
Meanwhile, actor Alden Ehrenreich has been selected to play the lead role in the Han Solo spinoff, according to The Hollywood Reporter. However, the any details related to the plot of the spinoff have not been revealed yet.
