Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, better known as PewDiePie, has yet to receive his Diamond Play Button from YouTube. Even after posting a 4-minute video rant on his channel and asking his followers, the “bro army,” to make the hashtag, #givepewdshisdiamondplaybutton trend on social media, it seems like his efforts are futile.
The Diamond Play Button, announced at the 2015 VidCon, is given to YouTubers who have reached 10 million subscribers. Having the world's most subscribed channel, one might assume that PewDiePie should have been given first dibs but turns out he was only given the Silver (100,000 subscribers) and Gold (1 million subscribers) button. To make it worse, the latter ended up getting destroyed by FedEx in transit.
"This is clearly trash. Like, what am I gonna do with it? I'm legit pissed," PewDiePie said in the Diamond Play Button unboxing video.
While the clip was clearly made for laughs, many rallied behind PewDiePie's back, saying that if there was a YouTuber who deserved the Diamond Play Button, it would be definitely him. With almost 45 million subscribers, Media Post held that he made YouTube "legit" with some advertisers, with the video sharing website bragging about PewDiePie's unbelievable subscriber count at the Brandcast event back in May.
Since he have waited long enough, PewDiePie held that YouTube should make up for it by sending him four Diamond Play Buttons smothered in glitter. He jokingly added that it should be delivered by a beautiful bearded man in a horse. He also demanded an apology from YouTube.
On a more serious note, PewDiePie said that he was "legit pissed" that YouTube made him wait so long for the plaque.
On his official Twitter page, PewDiePie shared that he finally received a package from YouTube. Unfortunately, it was just a black jacket with YouTube's gaming logo. Fellow gaming YouTuber Jack Septic Eye, Sean William McLoughlin, correctly guessed that that it was just a jacket and not the real thing. British vlogger Alfie Deyes also tweeted PewDiePie and asked if it was delivered by a sexy bearded man on a horseback like he asked.
