In "The Vampire Diaries" (TVD) Season 7 finale, the mysterious creature in the Armoury vault used Elena's voice to lure Damon and trap him. Later, while writing his journal, Stefan was heard making a promise to Elena to bring Damon back.

Elena's indistinct presence in the last-aired episode has got fans wondering about Nina Dobrev's return to the show. Many media outlets are speculating that Elena might be the key to bringing Damon back.

Even though there is no official confirmation, "The Vampire Diaries" (TVD) showrunner hinted at Dobrev's return to the show before it comes to an end.

"But in my opinion, she was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she's doing a great job of achieving that. So I'm sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end," Plec told TV Line.

This is not the first time Plec has hinted at the Dobrev's return. Earlier in her blog for Entertainment Weekly, Plec teased possible Delena reunion while responding to a fan's question about Elena and Damon's future. She said that Damon will have to go through a lot before he can meet Elena again.

"He will hit a lot of bumps in the road coming up in the next few episodes and will have to make some drastic decisions. Don't forget, when we started this season, he was lying desiccated in a coffin next to hers," Plec wrote.

Also, Hollywood Life is reporting that Dobrev's is "10,000 percent coming back." An unnamed source told the publication that Dobrev will be a part of the series finale. And rumour suggests that "The Vampire Diaries" (TVD) Season 8 is the final season in the series.

In addition, Plec has revealed details about the mysterious creature in the vault. It is said that this monster will play an important role in "The Vampire Diaries" (TVD) Season 8 as a new villain.

"We are not calling it anything, we are waiting for Season 8. I mean, internally, we're calling it something, but we're not telling people what that is yet. It's funny, this is the first time we've done this little story trick where we're actually withholding the identity and mythology of the new villain from the audience before the next season," Plec told TV Line.

She revealed that the creature has been around for thousands of years. "We didn't see it, but it has some creepy ass monster hands, and it has the ability to get inside your heard and strip away everything good about you. There's a nice mystery taking us into next season about what exactly this creature is," Plec added.

Meantime, fans will see Bonnie, Alec, Caroline and Stefan coming together to bring Damon and Enzo back. "The Vampire Diaries" (TVD) Season 8 episode 1 is expected to go on air in October 2016. However, the CW is yet to reveal the premiere date.
