Microsoft has not confirmed anything yet but the upcoming Xbox Two could actually be the Xbox Scorpio which would then take on the PlayStation 4 NEO from Sony.

Both consoles are expected to take console gaming to the next level. The Xbox Scorpio and the PlayStation 4 NEO would also be joined by the rumored Nintendo NX hybrid console that is expected to be launched in the earlier part of 2017.

The next step for the console hardware could be 4K gaming and virtual reality. While Microsoft has not yet announced their own VR headset, it would not be far from possible that they could already be working on a device.

For 4K gaming, the Xbox Two, or Xbox Scorpio is also expected to dish out 60 frames per second. It would put the console on par with the PlayStation 4 NEO which had been rumored to have the same output.

Several years have passed after the video game consoles have been launched. PC gaming has continually improved especially now with the new unveiling of the NVIDIA GTX 1080, GTX 1070 and AMD's new Radeon RX 480 powered by the new Polaris architecture.

Microsoft's Phil Spencer has already said that the idea of an Xbox 1.5 is moot, Forbes has learned. Sony's PlayStation 4 NEO is also dbbed as the PlayStation 4.5 which means they are not actually leaping a whole generation forward unlike the Xbox Scorpio.

Besides the powerful specs, the new console is also rumored to be smaller and lighter than the Xbox One. The price, however, has not been discussed but the cheaper GPU for PCs could also mean less expensive manufacturing costs for the consoles.

The Xbox Two name for the new console was taken from the fact that 2017 is the year of the "Scorpio," CBS News reported. Of course, the name could still be changed when it is finally unveiled just like Sony's Project Morpheus turned into the PlayStation VR.

Final spesc of the upcoming consoles have not yet been revealed even in leaks. There are speculations that the Nintendo NX could use a Polaris GPU and the other two consoles could also follow suit.

Sony could unveil their PlayStation 4 NEO at the E3 2016 event but Microsoft could reveal their Xbox Two or Xbox Scorpio a little later this year. The expected release date of Redmond's console is sometime in 2017.
