During an especially hectic time, the Shanghai city government added two new services to its official WeChat account on Tuesday that may even come in handy for residents during the annual Spring Festival celebrations.

Thanks to the navigation of technology by Shanghai's officials, the constituency will be able to check what the weather will be like before they leave the house to join the festivities, or can make necessary arrangements if they are hosting an event at their home.

However, the local authorities did not limit themselves to meteorological results and decided to also assist Shanghai residents with a real-time air quality report. People can now consider the health of their respiratory systems in addition to their dermatalogical health.

The city's local government worked collaboratively with Shanghai's weather bureau and environmental protection bureau to enhance their official WeChat profile, which also offers nine other services: appointment setting for entry-exit document processing and marriage registration; traffic-violation information; driver's license points information; transport-card balance; public accumulation funds; endowment insurance; medical insurance; and real-time traffic conditions.

The people of Shanghai will surely be grateful for the timing of the upgrade, as Feb. 18 will signal the beginning of a massive celebration that will fill the streets and roadways of China.

Revelers will be able to save significant amounts of time, as they can prepare beforehand for changes in the weather; they will know which days to avoid because the pollution levels are too high; and they will be able to work out the best times to travel by car--from their handsets!
