Capcom has unveiled their new Resident Evil 7: Biohazard title that would be coming to the PlayStation VR next year as it goes back to its horror roots.

The Resident Evil franchise, which includes the movies, have been criticized for being too focused on action. Earlier RE games still had a terrifying vibe that allowed players to enjoy the game because of the foreboding horror they felt every time they played the game.

However, the newer RE games have proved to be a disappointment for the most part. Sure, they can be good shooters in their own right but it what RE was originally known for.

Capcom might have finally gotten it right this time with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard as they plan to release it for the PlayStation VR, The Verge has learned. Of course, players can still play the game on their screens with their PlayStation 4 or the PlayStation NEO.

One advantage of the game will be its VR playability. Almost anything can become scary or spooky with VR simply because the player is more immersed in the experience and they will not be able to look away from the horror.

During the Sony E3 conference, the audience were lucky enough to see the live demo of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Instead of allowing the player to shoot endless hordes of zombies, the character is now stuck in a seemingly abandoned house without any light.

Capcom released the "Beginning Hour" teaser for RE 7 Biohazard after the conference, Polygon reported. Players were tasked to escape the virtual farmhouse.

Some appreciate what Capcom is doing with the new RE game. However, some have said that they are just starting to copy the Silent Hill formula as it closely resembles the recently canceled game from Konami.

Nevertheless, the game will surely spook most players especially with its new VR playability. Capcom is set to release Resident Evil Biohazard for the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One and Windows PC on January 24, 2017. The absence of PlayStation NEO from the supported platforms does raise concern but seeing as it would not need too much graphics firepower, it can be excused.
