President Barack Obama asked the United States Congress to grant his request to authorize the use of military forces on the campaign against the ISIS terrorist group. The President's proposal will allow full military forces against ISIS without geographic limits.
Obama proposes to authorize military force that will do the following: 1)Target ISIS and associated persons or forces, defined as those fighting with ISIS "in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners," 2) provide no geographic limits on the battle, 3) limit ground troops by banning "enduring offensive ground combat operations," 4) expire after three years unless renewed by Congress, and 5) repeal a 2002 authorization for force in Iraq but maintain a 2001 authorization against al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. Obama says his goal is to refine and ultimately repeal that authorization as well.
Obama wanted to repeal the 2002 measure that empowered the Iraq war; however, it will leave in place a 2001 consent passed after 9/11 attacks as campaign against the Al-Qaeda and affiliates, according to CBC News.
The authorization of the military forces will aim to provide the flexibility to do ground combat operations in other, more limited circumstances like rescue operations that involves US or coalition people or use of special operations unit to take military actions against ISIL leadership.
The mentioned request of the US President will pump the pressure against the ISIS group which has control over areas in Iraq and Syria at this time. It is expected for the Iraqi government to retaliate and prepare ground offense in a few months' time.
According to the White House, Obama believes that once Congress approves of the authorization request for the military force, this will give a strong sign of the US government's unity against the ISIS terrorists group, Al Arabiya News reported.
Obama also mentioned that coalition battling the Islamic forces in Syria and Iraq are on the offensive and will prevail.
