According to Tech Times, the rebranding of Moto X to Moto Z was taken as part of Motorola's metamorphosis under its new parent's wing, Lenovo Company.

The company announced several new phones as part of the Moto Z lineup during a tech event held on June 9 with news emerging that last year's Moto X lineup will not be replaced by the Moto Z and will continue to thrive.

Android Police cited Motorola saying that Moto X is alive and well. The statement added that Moto X Force recently was launched in a number of new markets around the globe.

To the company, Moto X and Moto Z make their portfolio more robust for consumers who are in need of perfect smartphone for their needs. The smartphones however, do share some of the characteristics although they will give customers different experiences.

Motorola adds that the Moto Z aims at power users who want the latest and greatest.

The company added that the Moto Z is meant to target the "tech-hungry" consumers. Such consumers who are highly looking to get a brand new set of taste from their smartphone will go for Moto Z and Moto Mods.

Additionally, Motorola also announced that the Moto Z and Moto Z force will be available for international customers and those in the United States will have to buy the Moto Z Droid and the Moto Z Force Droid Edition.

It also indicated that the Moto X and its devices, the Moto X Play and last year's flagship Moto X Style, were going to exist side by side.

It seems that Moto X will still live on although its position will slightly shift. The M X which used to be the flagship lineup and the Moto G the more affordable, budget offering, the new scheme gives a different picture with the Moto Z as the flagship.
