Car manufacturer Ford is going back to its own hometown to unveil its newest updated model of the Police Interceptor by staging it at the Chicago Auto Show.
The Ford Police Interceptor which is based on the Ford Explorer SUV and Taurus sedan are being manufactured at Ford's Chicago assembly plant.
The ubiquitous police car sports a new look and has various upgrade to boast. Among these upgrades is the new design for its front and rear-end along with a fresh looking headlights. The inside of the car also has new instrument panel and an upgraded electrical system.
An official statement form Ford confirmed that the new design is based from tips and observations presented to them by cops and the company added some interesting features in making a cop's job a lot easier.
Ford North American marketing manager for police vehicles Jonathan Honecutt said, "Our Police Interceptor Utility is the best-selling police vehicle in America because we have a unique relationship with our customers. By listening to the For Police Advisory Board, we have engineered a vehicle that officers love."
Additionally, Ford claimed that it holds 55 percent of the police car market through its Taurus-based sedan and the Explorer-based SUV. Ford managed to maintain this massive market share despite the closure of its Crown Victoria division which serves as the de facto provider of police cars in America, according to Detroit Free Press.
The new Interceptor is fitted with the standard 3.7-liter V6 engine; however a 3.5-liter turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine is also available. It has a six-speed transmission that has a Pursuit mode that changes the shifting to cope up with aggressive driving, according to USA Today.
