The final edited copy will then head for the proofreading process. The final corrected copy will then be ready for publishing. Translations in numerous languages will be done so that the book can be released for the non-English readers as well.

It is estimated that all these processes will take at least five to six months. Hence, the earliest that the "Winds of Winter" book can be released is in Jan. 2017, according to GameNGuide.

The first book of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" was released in 1996 and it shares its name with the TV adaptation of the book series - "A Game of Thrones." "A Clash of Kings" followed it in 1998.

Staying on the schedule, "A Storm of Swords" was released in 2000. After that, Martin's schedule and timely delivery of manuscripts went haywire. The fourth book "A Feast of Crows" took five long years to write and it was released in 2005.

The fifth book "A Dance with Dragons" was no different. It was also six years in the making and could only release in 2011.

Now the sixth and the seventh book in the series remain to be written and published. It is expected that the seventh book "A Dance with Spring" will not release before 2020.

In other news, author Martin had originally planned for Sansa Stark to marry Joffrey and also give birth to his heir, according to Variety. However, Joffrey ended up being killed on his own wedding day.

Joffrey was also supposed to battle for the Iron Throne with Robb Stark. In an ironic twist of fate, both the contenders of the Iron Throne were killed at weddings.
