As anticipated, "Game of Thrones" Season 6 episode 9 primarily focused on a showdown between the resurrected Jon Snow (Kit Harington), backed by thousands of Wildlings and a smattering of Northern houses, and the sadistic monster Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon). The episode, titled "Battle of the Bastards," also showed the emergence of alliance between Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) and Yara (Gemma Whelan).
The episode begins in Slavers Bay, where Meereen is under attack by the slave masters. Although Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) tries to handle the situation, Daenerys just wants to just wants to burn all her enemies down, showing a glint of a look of regal madness in her eyes just like her father, the Mad King of Westeros.
"My reign has just begun," announces Daenersy as she climbs aboard Drogon. Followed by other two dragons, Khaleesi's babies set the masters' fleet ablaze.
In the North, Ramsay and his backers ride to negotiate with Jon by telling him to surrender Sansa (Sophie Turner) to him. In return, Jon offers to fight him one-on-one in a bid to prevent the slaughter of thousands. Ramsay mocks the offer by taunting that Rickon Stark, the youngest of Stark family, is under his captivity.
While Jon sits down to strategise for the battle along with his team, Sansa reminds him that Ramsay is wickedly clever and can see traps coming from miles away. While Jon reassures her that he will always protect her, she snaps back, saying "No one can protect me."
Jon tells Melisandre (Carice van Houten) not to resurrect him again if he dies in the battle. She tells him that she only takes orders only from the Lord of Light and will try to bring him back if it is needed.
Back to Meereen, Yara and Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) come face to face with Khaleesi and Tyrion. While Tyrion reminds Theon how he made fun of him when they met last, Khaleesi and Yara hit it off. Yara offers her hundred ships of the Iron Fleet in exchange of independence for the Iron Islands. Daenerys agrees under the condition that Ironborn will respect the remainder of the Kingdoms and refrain from making raids on them.
Back to Westeros, Ramsay is shown riding into the battlefield leading Rickon (Art Parkinson) by a rope after which he cut the rope and tells the kid to run across the field. While Jon starts riding to save his little brother, an arrow pierces the boy's heart killing him instantly.
Jon's forces charge and the battle begins. Soon there is carnage everywhere with men being slaughtered mercilessly on both sides. Soon Jon and Davos are surrounded by Bolton forces. Jon is in the process of being trampled while his Giant (Ian Whyte) fights furiously by his side.
Just when Jon was seemingly beginning to give up, Sansa bailed out him as the Vale forces join him to mow down the Bolton force. Ramsay turns tail, but is being pursued by Jon, Tormund and the giant. Giant knocks down the Winterfell gate just in time to be killed.
In the single combat between Jon and Ramsay, the former pounds the latter's face as Sansa looks on. The Bolton banners are lowered from the walls of Winterfell and replace with the Stark banners. Jon instructs Rickon to be buried in the crypt next to his father.
Sansa finds Ramsay tied up in in the kennels. She tells him everything about him will disappear Just then his hounds, who were starving for days, creep out of their cages and started tearing him apart as Sansa looks on and then turns away, a faint smile on her lips. Watch the scene below:
