"Finding Dory" is making many people search for Blue Tang fish, but that can cause its population to decrease, experts suggest. They asked not to buy the fish if the viewer really liked the movie and the cute little sea animal.
The animated movie is already a big hit, and Dory is such an adorable fish that everyone is in love with it. The preceding movie, "Finding Nemo," resulted in a surging demand for orange clownfish as many wanted it as a pet. The demand was so much that it threatened the population of the Orange Clownfish and the same can be the case with Blue Tang if people think in the same direction.
A press release was issued by Center for Biological Diversity, to urge people not to buy Blue Tang. The fish breed primarily in the coral reef and they cannot survive in the aquarium atmosphere, for long. This results in high mortality rate. At the same time, while capturing the fish, cyanide is used to kill coral and other animals. This can hamper the underwater life, to a large extent.
The press release also mentioned that Disney is aware of the consequence of showing a fish that cannot grow in a captive environment. On June 17, Disney issued an educational document for those who want to have fish as a pet. It mentioned, "Blue tangs, like Dory, do not make good pets so instead choose appropriate aquacultured fish."
As mentioned by Vancouver Sun, King Ed Pet Centre in Burnaby is already in the way of making a good business out of it. The company is about to receive a shipment of 80 to 120 fishes and expect to sale it at $89.99 each. However, the co-owner, Kwang Lee said that he is not going to sale them to someone new to salt-fish. They will only go to the tropical environment.
"Finding Dory" has scored high in the box office in the opening weekend, and it crossed $136 million, in collection. This is the highest opening for an animated movie in the history of cinema. The movie also received a very good response in the theaters across the globe.
