A sequel of the American action comedy movie "Spy" is finally happening. And in "Spy 2", Director Paul Feig promises that fans can enjoy and see more of the funny and dim-witted, Rick Ford, a character played by Jason Statham.
Director Paul Feig, who is currently promoting his film "Ghostbusters", already has a story in mind for the upcoming sequel.
In an interview with Empire, he shares the storyline of "Spy 2" which will bring back 40-year-old, single, desk-bound CIA employee Susan Cooper, played by Melissa McCarthy. He added that it will not be merely a follow up. Feig intends the story to kick off with more involvement from Ford and he intends to make this character more dim-witted.
According to the director, fans enjoyed watching Ford as much as he did because it showed a parody of roles Statham usually played in his top-notch action movies like Fast and the Furious.
Feig added that McCarthy has been dying to do "Spy 2" and he's been down with the idea but, involving too much Ford in it. For him, Cooper is one of his favourite characters he's ever come up with. However, if it all boils down between her and Ford, Feig will choose the latter and described Ford as one of the characters he has created whom he is willing take to the grave with him.
Ford was introduced as one of CIA's top agents who turned out to be an omnipresent idiot competing with Cooper by demeaning her through outright bragging and exaggerated stories of his undercover missions.
Thus, Feig assures "Spy" fans to see and enjoy more of Ford in the movie's part two as becomes less self-aware. They can also look forward to more bragging, over the top stories and funny anecdotes from him, according to the director, who is also busy promoting his new film with McCarthy, "Ghostbusters".
"Spy" was released last year and starred Jude Law, Rose Bryne and Allison Janney. With more $200 million in gross sales, the movie was well-received universally even by critics, which according to entertainment website CinemaBlend, does not happen often in McCarthy-led films.
