Nintendo's consoles, the Wii U and 3DS, may have had a disappointing market performance given low sales volumes. Some of the company's future plans were unveiled during a shareholders meeting held Tuesday, June 28. Nintendo has indicated that it has no plans to discontinue production of its Wii U console, Attack of the Fanboy reported. Development activities for the said console will still continue, as well as the creation of games that gamers can play on Wii U. However, Nintendo did not further elaborate on their future plans for Wii U, although a big game title that has been set for release is the latest installment to the Zelda game franchise titled "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild."

Another Nintendo console that has been performing poorly in the gaming market is the handheld device 3DS. Sales for the said console has been low where the slump has been attributed to the slim inventory of big games available for the 3DS. However, similar to the Wii U, Nintendo is hoping that the upcoming "Pokemon Sun and Moon" for release later this year will jumpstart 3DS sales.

Apart from the Wii U and 3DS, Nintendo also made mention of its new NX console. The gaming company has stated during the meeting that it will proceed with plans to launch the NX in March 2017. Currently, developers have been trying to add a new feature to the NX. Nintendo stated that the planned March 2017 launch will still push ahead despite ongoing production work to add the said new feature.

Other details that were discussed in the shareholders meeting involved the market success of Nintendo's Amiibo figures. Some of the upcoming mobile games slated for release were also mentioned during the meeting. These games include "Animal Crossing" and "Fire Emblem."

Meanwhile, Nintendo is hoping to that the upcoming 2017 release of "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" will be a big hit worldwide. Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto stated that the game would need to pass a 2 million sales mark for the company can recover production costs, IGN reported. He also commented that a game title is considered a domestic hit if it has achieved a sales performance of around 300,000. However, he stressed that they were targeting "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" to become a worldwide hit.
