Android 5.0 Lollipop Less Likely to Crash Than Apple's iOS 8, Says Study

Google's Android 5.0 Lollipop is less likely to crash compared to its closest rival, the Apple iOS 8, said a recent study released by Crittercism,

Crittercism tests mobile application performance. The company tests various operating system including Android, iOS, Windows 9 Phone, HTML apps and Hybrid, according to Morning News USA .

According to Crittercism, Android 5.0 Lollipop crashes at a rate of two percent, which is significantly lower than Apple's iOS crash rate of 2.2 percent. In comparison, iOS 8 also has a higher crash rate compared to its predecessor, the iOS7, which crashes at 1.9 percent.

In the case of Lollipop, Android's latest operating system has a lower crash rate compared to its predecessor. Both Android 4.4 KitKat and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich recorded a crash rate of two percent.

Many factors cause smartphones apps to crash but what's clear is that Google has developed a far more stable OS compared to its rival.

One of the main reasons affecting an app's stability is the device type, according to BGR . Based Statistics from both Apple and Google show that iOS 8 is installed on 72 percent of all existing iOS devices while Android Lollipop is running on only 1.6 percent of all Android devices.

Another reason why apps crash is because of its design quality rather than the operating system they run on.

In addition, iOS 8 is also running on older models of the iPhone 4S and iPad 2. These two devices are known to have performance issues that could also cause apps to crash.
