Square Enix has released the official Final Fantasy VII game for Android users almost a year after it arrived for iOS users.

The new development means that Android users won't have to use PlayStation 1 emulators in order to play the classic Final Fantasy VII where the legendary Cloud vs Sephiroth battle was born. Previously, users who wanted to play the game again had to rely on emulators for the PC, PSP and their mobile phones if they do not have the original title and the PS1.

Some would consider Final Fantasy VII to be the best in the series while others may argue that it was FFVIII or FFVIX and so on and so forth. Those who have not played the game yet can now judge it by grabbing it from the Google Play Store.

One caveat is that Final Fantasy VII costs $16 to download, The Next Web reported. Obviously, there will be pirated versions of this through third-party APK downloads but they are not recommended as there could be malware hidden when it is installed.

The advantage of the FFVII Android version is that it supports using the virtual D-Pad or an analog stick layout. Emulators only had the option for the traditional gamepad layout which can sometimes be tiring to play on a small touch screen.

Users who wish to purchase Final Fantasy VII on Android will be required to have at least 4GB of free space on their phones, Android Police reported. However, the actual space that is taken up is only about 2GB and the rest could be saved for updates and save files throughout the game.

Android TV users won't be able to download the game. Another problem is that there is a bug that hasn't been fixed yet by Square Enix wherein the player could get stock when they disembark or embark on the different modes of transportation in the game.

Square Enix is already developing the remake of the Final Fantasy VII game and it would be nice for Android players to try out the classic game one last time before the revamped version can be released. The $16 price tag on the game could be worth it for die-hard fans of the franchise.
