"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 is rumored to feature the return of Nina Dobrev's Elena Gilbert even though it could cause huge problems for the other characters.

According to TV Line, the hit The CW series will introduce a new character named Sybil, and she could either be a friend or a foe.

Unlike the new female character Seline (Kristen Gutoskie), the role of Sybil hasn't been given to any actor as of late.

With this, Game n Guide is speculating that this could be because Dobrev herself will be playing the character.

In the past, the actress has given life to two characters at the same time, namely, Elena and Katherine.

The doppelgangers were typically in conflict with each other, and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) had to get in between the two of them at one point.

In "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, Dobrev can once again play the role of Elena's doppelganger especially while she's still lying lifeless in the coffin.

Executive producer Julie Plec previously said that Dobrev's Elena will most likely be seen only in the finale. But the exec never said that Dobrev cannot be part of the show in a different way.

Meanwhile, the publication's speculation somewhat makes sense because it is impossible for Elena to return to Mystic Falls while her best friend Bonnie (Kat Graham) is still alive.

In season 6, the condition about Elena's return was made to be very clear. If Bonnie dies, Elena could live.

A few months ago, Graham confirmed that she will be leaving "The Vampire Diaries" at the end of season 8.

The actress' exit could be very timely especially since Dobrev is expected to be back in the finale episode.

In other news, "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will also reveal how Stefan (Paul Wesley), Bonnie, Alaric (Matt Davis) and Caroline (Candice Accola-King) could find a way to help save Damon and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) from the Armory vault.

In the finale last season, Damon and Enzo were trapped in the vault and were transformed by the traumatic events that took place while there were there.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will premiere on The CW on Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. ET.
