Recent months have been filled with varying speculations on what Apple plans for the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro 2016. Of the two, the MacBook Pro is seen as likely to live on though the latest word right now is that both will be retained.

Of the two, the all-new MacBook Pro 2016 is expected to be backed by Intel’s latest Skylake processors that will account for a more powerful notebook according to Apple Insider. Aside from that, the laptop is expected to showcase the new MacOS Sierra system which has been in focus in recent weeks.

Tied up the MacBook Pro 2016’s use of the latest operating system is the debut of Siri. The virtual assistant is best known for her assistance to iPhone owners so it will be interesting what Siri will be bringing to the MacBook Pro.

Other features to expect for the MacBook Pro 2016 include an OLED panel taking the place of the old function keys. There are also features such as Touch ID, an NFC chip and wireless charging coming with the next MacBook Pro, giving Apple users plenty of reason to save up for the thinner model this coming Fall.

The same cannot be said for the MacBook Air. Seen as one of the more affordable devices to get in the market, the only good news is that the notebook variant will live on. The bad news is that Apple will no longer render updates for the MacBook Air.

The last time the MacBook Air got an update was in early 2015. 8 GB of RAM was added across all models but the notebook still remained physically the same according to Mashable.

With no refresh in sight, the MacBook Air is still considered one of the affordable devices consumers will buy. The starting price for the MacBook Air is $899, a reasonable pricing standpoint that will rack in interested buyers.

Should Apple at some point decide to kill the MacBook Air, it may not technically vanish. The iPad Pro is seen as a potential successor as Apple gears up for the AIO wars with rival company Microsoft.

The iPad Pro can transform into a laptop as well with a keyboard though the concern of many is the productivity it can serve. The iPad Pro runs on iOS meaning it may all boil down to the apps to aid potential owners in their daily work-related routines.
