Polaroid is taking on Apple Live Photos with their own Swing app that allows iOS users to capture one-second moving images with their devices.

The feature is highly similar to HTC Zoe snaps or the Apple Live photos on iPhones. Polaroid's new Swing app wants to let users capture more than a still image of their lives.

If a user is viewing a Swing image on their iPhones, they can let the image move by tapping on it or moving their phone from side to side. Polaroid Swing can also allow users to spruce up their moving images with filters from the app itself, PC Magazine has learned.

The concept itself is not revolutionary as moving images already exist in the Internet as GIFs. There are also other apps that can capture GIFs instantly without having to edit them in another app.

Apple introduced the feature in their Live Photos for their latest iPhones. It did not really catch on considering that social media sites such as Facebook or even Instagram do not really highlight them on their networks with the exception of the latter.

Polaroid's Swing app was developed to compete with other video-sharing apps such as Vine and Instagram's Boomerang, Digital Trends reported. Vines have also boomed in popularity in the past year or so but the market has become so saturated with thousands of videos being shared on social media sites.

The Swing app from Polaroid is currently available for iOS users only. It is weird that the company did not release the app for Android considering that Apple devices already have the Live Photos feature which would be kind of redundant now.

Shaking iPhones in public may not seem to be the best option for users. It could potentially cause more vertigo in moving cars or trains while the user is trying to view Polaroid Swing moving images.

Polaroid believes that people want to capture their moments in moving images rather than still photos as memories move in people's minds. The Swing app for Android is still being developed but a release data has not yet been announced by Polaroid.
