Comedian and television host Ellen Degeneres all set to team up with Warner Bros. and Buzzfeed to convert an internet phenomenon "Brother Orange" into a movie.
The host will work along with Ilana Glazer, the co-creator of "Broad City." The event has been considered as one of the cutest bromances that reached the public in an adorable way through social media platform. If you have missed it, Degeneres is going to bring it to you in the form of a flick.
It is the story of Buzzfeed editor Matt Stopera and his Orange brother, who mysteriously recovered the former's lost iPhone. The story will feature all characters and the developing bond of friendship between the guys. The makers are determined to convert the real-life event into a reel life incident.
In 2014, Stopera lost iPhone in a bar in New York City. Like every other person would do, he also forgot about the loss and bought a new one. After a couple of months, some photographs were displayed on his photo stream that featured selfies of a man and beautiful sceneries. Among those images, there was one where the man in the photo stood in front of an orange tree.
After investigating the matter, Stopera came to a conclusion that the pictures were from China. The Shanghaiist reported that he realized that he was not logged out of his iCloud account yet.
The victim posted the whole story on Buzzfeed. His article "Who Is This Man And Why Are His Photos Showing Up On My Phone" went viral on Weibo and soon he found the mystery man. It was Li Honguin, the "Brother Orange."
Buzzfeed Motion Pictures' development heads Michael Shamberg and Matthew Henick will be producing the movie. Besides Stopera and Glazer, Jeff Kleeman will also be responsible for co-producing "Brother Orange."
Hollywood Reporter stated that Shamperg in one of his interviews said that he had to develop the idea and test it online prior to proceeding with "Brother Orange" project. "When we develop stuff here, then we can upstream it to movies and TV," he said. "It's a real opportunity for talent and it's a real opportunity to complement the studio system."
