HBO raked in 94 nominations for the 68th Emmy Awards 2016 though it got down from 126 in 2015. Its fantasy series "Game of Thrones" received 23 nominations as per an announcement on July 13, Wednesday.

The cable network is the overall most recognized network, courtesy of its other shows aside from "Game of Thrones." It includes "Silicon Valley," "All the Way," "Veep," "Confirmation," Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill" and "Getting On." In 2015, it garnered 126 overall nominations but this year's score is dented by FX's "Fargo" and "The People v. O.M. Simpson: American Crime Story."

"Game of Thrones" stars Maisie Williams and Kit Harington earned their first nominations in the Supporting Actress and Actor categories, joining repeat nominees co-stars Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey. Dinklage won the Supporting Actor category in 2011 and 2015 while Max von Sydow earned Guest Actor for being the show's Three-Eyed Raven.

Williams portrays Arya Stark while Harington, her half-brother Jon Snow. "Game of Thrones" is likewise nominated for Outstanding Drama Series. It gains a Writing nomination for showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Beniof for this year's season 6 episode 9 "Battle of the Bastards," the biggest battle on TV ever. The episode likewise gives a directing Nomination for Miguel Sapochnik while episode 5 "The Doors" gives a similar nomination to Jack Bender.

Other nominations for HBO's fantasy drama are Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Stunt Coordination, Makeup, Prosthetic Makeup, Costumes, Hairstyling, Interactive Program, Editing, Cinematography, Special Visual Effects, Production Design and Casting. In 2015, it earned a record-breaking of 12 Emmys from 24 nominations, including Outstanding Writing for Weiss and Benioff, Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Directing for David Nutter, Variety reported.

The fantasy drama earned the most awards in Emmy 2015 and could be this year's massive winner again. Worth noting is that this year's season displayed more girl power in its storyline from Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and her onscreen younger sister Arya (Maisie Williams) to Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Cersie Lannister (Lena Headey); big deal reveals like Jon Snow's (Kit Harington) parentage and its epic war, "Battle of the Bastards," according to US Weekly.
