Microsoft is aware of the hype surrounding “No Man’s Sky” which will be available starting next month for the PlayStation 4. With that in mind, Xbox owners can look to something reasonable close to the exploration game with “The Solus Project”.

Developed by Grip Digital, “The Solus Project” is considered Microsoft’s big ticket to level the playing field with rival company Sony. The exploration game recently graduated from the Xbox Game Preview ranks and looks like a promising story-driven game to check out.

According to Xbox Wire, the game takes place at a time when the Earth has been annihilated as humans try to recover via small fleets of ships near Pluto. As the one behind the controller, gamers will be tasked to venture out into space and locate a planet for a potential new colony.

Unfortunately tragedy strikes when the ship is destroyed. Players will eventually end up with nothing and land on a deserted and mysterious planet called “Gliese-6143-C”.

From that point, the exploration begins. Players will need to explore the mystery planet and unravel the mysteries tied up to the disappearance of the alien race.

Similar to “No Man’s Sky”, it will be the survivor’s task to deal with the harsh reality and survive a questionable but expectedly hostile environment. The ultimate goal is to find a way to send word back home and save what is left of humanity.

It remains to be seen of “The Solus Project” can be at the same level of “No Man’s Sky” though some marketing aid could help. One thing that created the hype for Sony’s ambitious space exploration game is the backing so Microsoft may want to start doing just that.

Either way, it gives the Xbox users something to look forward to, Engadget reported. It is the closest thing that they can get to something similar to “No Man’s Sky”, not to mention cheaper (than buying a PS4). “The Solus Project” is now available from the Xbox Store for just $15.
