ZTE just proved that they can make one of the cheapest Android smartphones still with decent enough specs for the average user with their new ZTE ZMax Pro that costs only $99.

The ZTE ZMax Pro also does not look cheap. Its sides have a metal finish while the back of the phone has a polycarbonate material with a rubberized finish so that it does not slip easily off of the user's hands.

For the display, the ZTE ZMax Pro has a 6-inch screen with an outstanding resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It is without a doubt one of the cheapest 1080p smartphones regardless of the screen size.

Another seemingly impossible spec is that the ZTE ZMax Pro also has a fingerprint scanner at its back, PC Magazine has learned. Most smartphones that have a fingerprint scanner usually sit in the price range of $150 to $200.

Under the hood, the smartphone from ZTE also does not let up. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 SoC with an octa-core processor.

ZTE's ZMax Pro also boasts a modest 2GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage with support for expandable storage through a microSD card up to 128GB, Digital Trends reported. It is also fitted with dual SIM slots for those who need to use different carriers at the same time.

With last year's ZMax 2 at $150, the new ZTE ZMax Pro also beats its predecessor with a larger battery capacity of 3400mAh vs the former's 3000mAh. The new smartphone also supports the Qualcomm Quick Charge technology for those who need their smartphones fast and always on the go.

ZTE is shipping the ZMax Pro with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It is not known whether it will have support for the new Android 7.0 Nougat version that Google recently unveiled.

For the camera, the ZTE ZMax Pro has a 13-megapixel rear sensor and a 5-megapixel sensor for the front snapper. Camera quality has not yet been tested as only photos of the phone itself has surfaced.

ZTE is now pre-selling the $99 ZTE ZMax Pro smartphone online through MetroPCS. The release date will be sometime in August.
