It has been more than 10 years since Valve Corporation released the second installment of the "Half Life" game series, which was a massive worldwide hit. With the third installment still not confirmed, recent news points to the possibility that "Half Life 3" may come in 2018, and will be Virtual Reality ready.

According to reports, Valve's silence about the development of "Half Life 3" has not discouraged the supporters of the franchise, and that the fans of the game series are said to be optimistic that Valve will release the third installment sometime soon, Vine Report has learned.

The same publication highlighted the rumors that "Half Life 3" is going to be eventually released, and the game would be playable under the Virtual Reality system. It is said that the game is indeed under development even if Valve has not released a statement confirming it yet.

The rumor sparked when an employee of Valve was seen to have a "Left 4 Dead 3" folder on his desktop while giving a tutorial video. It can be remembered that aside from "Half Life 3," "L4D 3" was also an anticipated game that Valve has not confirmed to be under development. With that said, fans are speculating that Valve may have been developing both "Half Life 3" and "Left 4 Dead 3" in full secrecy.

On the other hand, other reports suggest that "Half Life 3" may have already been cancelled, Rolling Stone reported. According to the same publication, there are several clues that indicate the cancellation of the anticipated sequel. One of which is the resignation of the game's lead designer and writer, Marc Laidlaw.

Another report claim that the statement of Valve's CEO, Gabe Newell, saying that it would not be a good idea to develop "Half Life 3," citing "Portal 2" as an example is a hint that the game is not happening.

As of the moment, Valve has not officially released a statement regarding the cancellation of the game, which is why fans remain positive that "Half Life 3" will come to reality.
