Sony has given more details on how the Cinematic Mode on their upcoming PlayStation VR will work as fans are left confused as to what it really does and how it will change their experience.

The PlayStation VR has been marketed to be able to play all games from the PlayStation 4 and presumably the PlayStation Neo as well considering that there will be no exclusives. However, it does not mean that players will get to play all the games in a first-person perspective.

Sony's Cinematic Mode in PlayStation VR will just allow users to sit inside a virtual movie theater room with a large screen to play their PlayStation 4 games, PlayStation Lifestyle has learned. They would also be able to watch their movies inside the said theater.

Players will be given three different sizes of the virtual screen that they will see in the PlayStation VR cinematic mode. There will be a small, medium and large size that is said to be the equivalent of a 226-inch screen in the real world.

The default option for the Cinematic Mode in PlayStation VR is the medium setting, UploadVR reported. For those who want to lie down, they may want to use the small screen as it seems to follow their gaze as not to break the player's field of view.

In a sense, PlayStation 4 users can just buy a PSVR and plug it in instead of a monitor. There could be some cases where the virtual theater setup is better than a real world monitor especially if the user only has a 15.6-inch HD screen which can provide a low quality experience for playing games or watching videos.

The PlayStation VR is also supporting 360-degree videos and photos. However, it is not known yet whether it can also support the NVIDIA Ansel tool 360-degree game screenshots that can now be viewed using an Oculus Rift, HTC Vive or even a Google Cardboard headset.

Sony's PlayStation VR is set to be launched in several months when the PlayStation Neo is also expected based on all of the leaked information. Players will also need to buy the PlayStation Camera and some Move controllers if they want the full experience.
