"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 has been confirmed as the last installment for the once-hit The CW series.

Just recently, the producers of the show announced that "The Vampire Diaries" is ending while at the 2016 San Diego Comic Con.

Even though the announcement has been expected by some of the fans of the hit show, some other groups of viewers were not pleased to hear the news.

On the other hand, this also sealed the rumors that Nina Dobrev will be returning to the show especially since executive producer Julie Plec said she wants to see Elena Gilbert in the finale.

"It's what she and I kind of agreed on when she decided to move on, and it's what I've got in my head. Obviously things can change throughout time, if the show goes on longer than we expect it to, or if we all collectively decide it would be fun to bring her back earlier, and she wanted to... I'm sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end," she told TV Line.

Meanwhile, since the filming for "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will official start next week, fans believe that anything could happen on the show.

Just recently, Ian Somerhalder was photographed at the LAX just before he boarded his flight to Atlanta. At that time, his wife Nikki Reed joined him.

A few hours later, Somerhalder and Reed were photographed with the cast and crew of "The Vampire Diaries." Even though the latter wasn't around during the cast's first script reading session, she was present when they all went out to dinner.

This heightened speculations that Reed may also be making a cameo on "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, according to Inquisitr.

Additionally, since there are some obvious similarities between Reed and Dobrev's physical appearance, there are some rumors that if Dobrev doesn't agree to return to the show, Reed could simply take her place.

However, doing so means that Reed's face cannot be shown directly in front of the camera. But having a scene with her husband Somerhalder's Damon Salvatore should come easy for her.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will premiere on The CW on Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. ET.
