Game company SEGA has just announced two new "Sonic: The Hedgehog" game titles coming in 2017 during the San Diego Comic-Con. The head of the Sonic Team Takashi Iizuka said that their video game was made due to their fans.
According to the official press release of the game company, "Sonic Mania" and an untitled original video game will be released on consoles and PC in 2017. The first game will be nostalgic for the fans who love the classic 2D video games of the game franchise. This game will have pixel-style art and core classic gameplay based from the iconic Zones and Acts from the previous titles of the popular game series.
The game company is in collaboration with PagodaWest Games to develop this new video game. It will be released digitally in Spring 2017.
Iizuka said that the game was created for the fans who love the classic 2D platform version of the game series. He confirmed that this collaboration will be a first for the game company, and they hope that everyone will enjoy it. He added that this has been a passion project for their whole team and they look forward to share more details with the fans later.
Another game title was also revealed during the event, but the name is still unknown. This new upcoming video game is in development by the Sonic Team. It will be available at retail and digital stores next year for the Holidays.
Chief brand officer of Sonic Pillar Ivo Gersovich said that the event brought a lot of fans together from all over the world. He added that this is only the beginning of their franchise, and they were happy that the fans were here to celebrate with them.
In other "Sonic" news, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has revealed its Wave 7 expansion packs for their video game "Lego Dimensions," Shack News quoted them as saying during the San Diego Comic-Con event. The new expansion pack for the video game will include the Sonic the Hedgehog Level Pack and two other levels.
Furthermore, players are able to race as Sonic himself across a number of familiar locations of the game franchise. They can also build the minifigure of the Lego version of the blue hedgehog and use him across all of the levels.
