The developers at Niantic are looking at introducing cool new things to the massively popular mobile gaming app "Pokemon Go." Some of these enhancements include new characters and an enhanced Pokestop.
The revelation was made by Niantic founder John Hanke during the "Pokemon Go" panel held during the San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 22. The game was released in the United States in early July and has since gained a loyal following of gamers across the country and in other parts of the world. Its popularity has also resulted in Comic Con organizers moving the game's panel to the San Diego convention hall's biggest venue Hall H, according to The Verge.
During the event, Hanke revealed the company's plans to introduce the second generation of Pokemon characters to the game. He teased that Niantic is looking to incorporate these new characters in "interesting ways" to the said mobile app. However, he did not indicate a clear timeline on when they will release the new Pokemon characters.
He also shared that they plan to enhance the function of pokestops in "Pokemon Go." Hanke stated that allowing players to modify the function of a pokestop would make the game more interesting. He hinted of pokestops being converted into healing centers through the use of an object that can change its function.
Another new concept that the Niantic founder unveiled during the game's Comic-Con panel included Pokemon breeding, as indicated in the same report. Although Hanke stated that the said game feature was something that he and other developers are still discussing. Other enhancements that Niantic are looking to introduce includes Pokemon training and trading between players.
It is still unclear if and when these planned enhancements will eventually make it to the mobile gaming app. Hanke mentioned that have been working hard to keep the server's running and in stable condition. Avid players would know that game stability has been a key issue of the mobile app. Niantic has already deployed a patch to help address this, however, some players still experience difficulties in logging in.
Meanwhile, "Pokemon Go" already made its way to the game franchise's home country, Japan. The mobile game app was released in the said country on Friday, July 22. In a video announcement, the "Pokemon" game's co-creator and Game Freak's Head of Development Junichi Masuda has conveyed his apologies to Japanese game fans for the mobile app's late launch, CNBC reported. He also shared his dream that players will be able to see the world in a new way through "Pokemon Go."
