"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 cast member Ian Somerhalder may have just hinted on the fact that he's not excited over Nina Dobrev's return to the series.

While speaking with TV Line, the actor and his co-stars were asked if there will be any familiar faces returning to the hit The CW series.

Somerhalder was one of the first to say that none of those who were previously featured in the series will return to "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.

Even though the actor's statement sounded like he was just joking, some fans interpreted it to be something else.

Some fans noted how obvious it was that the actor doesn't really like to work with his ex-girlfriend Dobrev. However, since it is required in their characters' storyline, there's nothing much that he could do.

Meanwhile, "The Vampire Diaries" executive producer Julie Plec confirmed that Dobrev wouldn't be the only cast member to return to the show in season 8.

Even though she didn't name names, the exec said that it is her goal to have some of the most loved characters in the series return to the show's final season.

Plec added that she specifically wants to see Sheriff Forbes, Caroline's (Candice Accola-King) mom to return to Mystic Falls. The character was previously killed off, but it's possible that Plec and the writers could find a way to have her back.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will premiere on The CW on Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. ET.
