The Los Angeles Lakers may not be done yet making amends to their roster, with the team possibly hosting Larry Sanders' return to the NBA.
The Lakers are almost geared up heading into the next season, but could still have room for one more signing, with Larry Sanders attempting an NBA comeback. Sanders posted a poll on Twitter about teams who would best utilize skills and among the clubs the 27-year-old center considers is the Lakers.
Interestingly, Sanders seem to have been monitoring the Lakers in the past season after revealing in a Q&A with Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders that he has season tickets with the Purple and Gold.
"I have season tickets for the Los Angeles Lakers and I love watching and dissecting the game. I mean, I love this game. I really do. I love to play it, and I do still play a lot here in L.A," Sanders said.
"But there were some things about it, some situations, that I didn't love. But I feel like I'm in a much better place right now and I'm equipped to be able to put myself in that situation again."
Sanders, who was waived by the Milwaukee Bucks in February last year, retired from the NBA at a young age, citing depression and anxiety as the cause of his sudden exit from the game. In his final season with the Bucks, he only played 27 games, averaging 7.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks, while playing 21.7 minutes per game.
Just weeks after reaching a contract buy-out with Milwaukee, Sanders revealed he had received treatment for anxiety and depression, and had insisted he will return to playing basketball once he is capable to doing so again.
It has been more than a year after suffering from his mental health problems and Sanders seems ready to make a return on the hard court. According to SB Nation's Harrison Faigen, the Lakers may want to "investigate" bringing Sanders to Los Angeles.
The Lakers could surely maximize Sanders' talent as a finisher and rim protector, a skillset that Timofey Mozgov lacks. The former Milwaukee Bucks center would also be a key cog with the Lakers if Luke Walton decides to impose some of the playbooks he used with the Golden State Warriors.
It remains to be seen whether the Lakers truly have a genuine interest in acquiring Sanders. LA still has one more roster spot available and it would be intriguing if they would reserve it to stage Sanders' NBA comeback.
