South Korean actor Jin Goo is said to be open in doing a remake or sequel to KBS 2TV's global smash-hit series, "Descendants of the Sun." The drama, which aired from Feb. 24 to April 22, proved a breakout hit for the 36-year-old star.
In the 16-episode melodrama co-directed by Baek Sang-Hoon and Lee Eung-Bok, Jin played Sergeant Major Seo Dae-Young (aka Wolf). Now, in a new interview with Korean news outlet Sports Chosun, Jin said that he would be up to do a sequel but is not certain when it may happen.
"The series was a bonanza to me," Jin told the news outlet, as cited by The Kpop Herald. "I would absolutely join, no matter whether it ends in success or not. I should reward [the fans of the series] for the bonanza I enjoyed."
On April 22, KBS's head of drama department, Jung Sung-Ho, revealed that their plans to produce a "Descendants of the Sun" sequel, according to Korean news outlet Naver TV, as cited by Soompi. The planned sequel is intended to be released sooner or later in 2017.
Jung too added that the sequel drama may involve an entirely new story than the first installment. It is said that "Descendants of the Sun" sequel may instead involve second leads, Jin and Kim Ji Won, who played Sergeant Major Seo Dae Young and Lieutenant Yoon Myeong-Ju, respectively.
Starring Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong-Ki, "Descendants of the Sun" track the personal and professional struggles, sacrifices of Army Captain Yoo Si Jin and Dr. Kang Mo Yeon, after they were stationed in the anecdotal war -stricken and disease-ravaged country of Urk.
The series was a major hit in South Korea with the final episode recording a 38.8 percent nationwide rating. Hence, Jin experienced a tremendous growth in his popularity all through Asia.
Jin also revealed that he now receives much more acting offers for romance genre after starring in the drama. He then gushes on how surprised he was to be recognized by individuals of different races.
"It's amazing how people recognize me in other countries," Jin added. "I understand maybe in Asia, but I was really surprised to be recognized in Paris, France."
