New worlds are set to be introduced in "Outlander" Season 3 as the show delves deeper into the time traveler phenomenon that brought Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) together.
In the upcoming new season, a time jump of 20 years will reunite Claire and Jamie, after they parted ways in the Season 2 finale. By the time we see the characters again, things will be a bit different and Jamie will have aged. However, Heughan teased that Jamie's inner conflict is not so much about his appearance, but how Claire's absence has affected him.
"It's going to be a completely different show," Heughan told Vulture. "We've been setting it up, setting the stage, introducing these characters, and now it goes into new, different worlds." To be specific, a change in locality will take place as the characters set sail for the Caribbean.
Production for "Outlander" Season 3 is set to begin in September. Writer and producer Matthew B. Roberts, who hinted that they've already begun scouting for locations, did not verify a potential Caribbean shoot.
Although sailing and setting out to see new worlds is a predominant theme in "Outlander" Season 3, fans are assured that there will still be more Jamie and Claire drama following their heartbreaking separation in Season 2.
By the time they meet again, they're both older and the prevalent question is what has become of Jamie throughout the years that he's lived without the love of his life. The tragedy and romance of it all will be vastly explored in "Outlander" Season 3.
"I think both of them have probably held each other up on a pedestal for 20 years, so in many ways, they're going to have to destroy that image first before they can fall in love with the person right in front of them," Balfe clued in Variety on the Jamie-Claire situation in the next season. Another exciting element in the third season is the development in Claire and Brianna's mother-daughter relationship.
Will Jamie and Claire love for each other stand the test of time? The reported 13-episode "Outlander" Season 3 is expected to return to television in the early part of 2017.
