Chapter 498 of "Fairy Tail" has been speculated to feature the battle between Gray and Invel. Both ice-driven characters will fight each other, with the latter dominating his opponent. Although the odds will seem in favor of Invel, Gray will eventually find a way to defeat the Ice Mage by luring him to do one shot.
The last chapter left off with Neinhart reporting the whereabouts of Lady Erza to Irene. Irene then gave him an instruction to kill Erza, and reminded Neinhart to always remember who he really is. The female villain also extracted the Fairy Heart from Mavis and the Ice slave.
Invel The Ice Mage has also appeared last chapter as soon as the Fairy Tail guild reached the battle field. The Winter General showed his prowess when he single-handedly defeated Natsu, Happy, Lucia and Juvia. Even the flames of Natsu did not work for the Ice Mage.
Despite this, it was evident how Gray was able to manage Invel's attack. Fans of "Fairy Tail" are now dropping speculations for the upcoming chapter, saying Gray can defeat the Winter General using his ice attacks. CharaRose said in a discussion thread at Manga Helpers that Gray will not even be affected by Invel's attacks.
Now that these hints are being revealed, the next chapter may probably feature the battle between Gray and Invel. Fans at the said forum have described how powerful Invel's attacks could be, saying he can easily destroy anyone without lifting a muscle. Coming from this angle, it is unknown whether Gray would be faring with the Ice Mage or he would also end up being frozen like his comrades.
However, in a blogpost of MangaTrip, the author speculated Invel will be defeated by Gray. Invel will be dominating the fight by around 90% but Gray will manage to lure his opponent to do a one big shot.
