Following what appeared to be war of words with his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez and his fans, Justin Bieber has quit Instagram. The pop star deleted his account a few hours after he threatened Beliebers of making his account private if they did not stop trolling his new flame, Sofia Richie.

The "Baby" hit maker apparently hit the delete button during the early hours of Aug. 16, Tuesday, leaving his 77.8 million followers in a frenzy. The move came moments after the singer switched his Instagram account to private, before changing his mind and making the page public again after which he deleted the account entirely.

It all started when the Canadian sensation posted some pics of himself and his latest gal pal. The 17-year-old model, who is also the daughter of singer-songwriter Lionel Richie, has been seen out and about with Bieber in recent weeks and has been rumored to be his latest love interest.

The pic seemingly did not go down well with some of his fans, who in turn started leaving several hateful comments. Bieber evidently did not take kindly to the comments and threatened them of blocking access to his social media accounts.

The social media exchange became more dramatic when Gomez too started posting vengeful comments on the singer's account. The Mexican beauty told him to stop posting his girlfriend's pictures if he did not want a backlash. She even accused the singer of cheating on her when they were dating.

"If you can't handle the hate, then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol- It should be special between you two only," Gomez wrote in Bieber's comments section on the now-deleted pic, Time reported.

Bieber hit back with a cryptic message which seemed to suggest that Gomez had used him to become famous and even cheated on him with former One Direction member Zayn Malik. The trolling continued till the early hours after which the superstar singer's account started pointing to an error page.

Despite the online furore, Bieber surprisingly seemed unperturbed by the row as he looked happy and relaxed while taking part in an ice hockey match in the San Fernando Valley in California on the night of Aug. 15, Monday, Daily Mail reported.
