Fans of "Wrecking Ball" singer Miley Cyrus were shocked upon waking up last Monday, Aug. 15, when they saw that a trending hashtag on Twitter bore the words: #RIPMileyCyrus.

There was a lot of confusion at first when the disturbing, mysterious hashtag boomed on Twitter because the reasons for it were not initially clear. Some even thought that the eminent death of the singer might have happened and started to get worried.

It turns out that the controversial mystery was a backlash against her fans from K-Pop fans. These fans were angry because they claimed that Cyrus' followers were racist towards their demographic.

Funny enough, this explosion happened as a result of one of Cyrus' followers making the racist remark on Twitter, and not from Cyrus herself, yet her name was the one used for the "rest in peace" hashtag. Both fans from the same side tried explaining this as an attempt to prevent the misdirected hashtag from trending further.

According to some K-Pop fans, a Cyrus fan posted on Twitter that the South Korean pop genre was only known in Asia, along with other racist remarks. Some K-Pop fans defended the retaliation of the K-Pop fanbase by stating that it was not them who declared war in the first place.

Other fans of the Asian pop genre even went as far as to claim that it was the Cyrus fans themselves who started the hashtag as an attempt to blame it on the Korean pop fans once it blows off. All K-Pop fans ever did was to diffuse the racism by protecting their role model singers and idols.

The trending #RIPMileyCyrus hashtag was said to be a result of a previous comparison where Justin Bieber and a K-Pop group called Exo held their own respective concerts in Tokyo at the same night, according to Unreality TV. K-Pop fans compared photos of Exo's and Bieber's concerts, were they said that Exo had more fans than the famous Canadian singer.

Once a Cyrus fan attacked the genre, the backlash began. Meanwhile, Cyrus has yet to respond from the issue.

On a related note, Cyrus along with actor Liam Hemsworth had a very odd celebration of Luke Hemsworth's wife's birthday last weekend. Weird outfits were sported, various golden props, and attempts of painting butterflies with their butts were seen posted, according to Billboard.
