John Cena lost a hard-fought match against A.J. Styles on Sunday at SummerSlam. According to the latest rumors, Cena will be taking a hiatus to film the second season of his television show and here is the latest update regarding his time off.

The 15-time World Champion rarely gets defeated in singles matches by the same superstar but his recent loss to The Phenomenal One is a step in the right direction. The WWE has been described as getting stale by many of its fans, who have been clamoring for the company to build new stars.

After the match, Cena left his "Never Give Up" armband in the middle of the ring. Some thought that it was a retirement gesture while others knew that the 39-year-old will be going on hiatus to film the second season of "American Grit."

According to DailyDDT, the armband gesture could mean something including a change of character for Cena. It is also noted that a heel turn is possible but the simplest explanation is Mr. HLR's transition to a part-time superstar.

Cena has been very busy for the past year with his outside projects including roles in movies such as "Trainwreck" and "Sisters." He also hosted the 2016 ESPYS and Teen Choice Awards while hosting and producing "American Grit."

FOX renewed the reality television show for a second season and Cena also signed a new deal with Leftfield Entertainment. He will be collaborating with the company to produce more unscripted television shows in the future.

The Cenation Leader missed two months last year to film the first season of "American Grit." He is expected to miss a couple more starting in September to shoot the second season while leaving SmackDown Live in the hands of Styles, Randy Orton and Dean Ambrose.

However, the WWE has not officially announced or confirmed Cena's hiatus but it is expected to come anytime soon. He was already missing in this week's episode of SmackDown in Uncasville, Connecticut with Styles cutting a promo about him.

Nevertheless, Cena wrestled a dark match in the event teaming up with Ambrose and Roman Reigns to defeat Seth Rollins, Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan, per Wrestle Zone. Check out the video below to see Styles take some verbal shots at Cena.
