Hollywood filmmaker and producer Bryan Singer has recently shared his thoughts on the "X-Men" TV show "Legion" and how it connects to future movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The director of several "X-Men" films in the said Marvel movie franchise was candid during the press event of the Edinburgh international TV festival where he talked about some of his projects including the upcoming TV show "Legion," Mirror reported. Singer is a producer for the said FX series that will be directed by "Fargo" filmmaker Noah Hawley.

Singer commented on the connection of "Legion" to the "X-Men" movie franchise and other films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He shared that the upcoming FX series will link into future "X-Men" films including previous Marvel superhero movies such as Ryan Reynolds' hit flick "Deadpool." However, Singer did not reveal other details about the TV show or potential plot lines in upcoming "X-Men" films.

The new FX series will tell the story of Profession Charles Xavier's son David Haller. "Downtown Abbey" star Dan Stevens has been identified to play the lead role in "Legion." Singer mentioned that they wanted the upcoming TV series to be a "part of the X-Men universe."

Singer also addressed "Legion" director Hawley's previous comment that the TV series will not be connected to the "X-Men" movies. He agreed with the said filmmaker's initial "standalone" description of the TV series. He shared that viewers who were not familiar with the Marvel comic book series would still be able to relate to the show. "When you [watch] it, you wouldn't have to label it, it can exist completely on its own," he stated.

Fawler has shared in a previous HitFix interview that viewers will be able to watch the upcoming FX series even if they have yet to see any of the "X-Men" movies. He described the Marvel TV show as "a standalone kind of thing." The "Fargo" director also teased of the TV series' intriguing storyline that will feature Professor Xavier's son's journey in handling his powers and the character's perceived mental illness.

Apart from Stevens, the TV show's other cast members include Jean Smart, Amber Midthunder, Bill Irwin, Rachel Keller, Aubrey Plaza, Katie Aselton and Jeremie Harris. "Legion" has been slated for release in early 2017.
