"Outlander" Season 3 production has started, and it looks like fans of the historical time travel TV series have more reasons to get excited about the new season as Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) reunite. Showrunner Ronald D. Moore hinted what is in store for Season 3, including the major change of scenery and the challenges they are facing while filming.

The new season will see the much-awaited reunion of Jamie and Claire 20 years after they drifted apart. Moore could not hide the fact that "Outlander" Season 3 is more challenging and more intricate than the two previous seasons.

"The story of season 3 will start in Scotland," Moore told Radio Times. "Then there's a sea voyage involved in the 18th century, an extended journey across the Atlantic, and then the story goes to Jamaica and the Caribbean and ending up in the New World."

Moore further explained that although the change of scenery looks very creative, it is challenging in terms of the production. "Outlander" Season 3, which will be based on Diana Gabaldon's third book, "Voyager," will see a major change in scenery so it is more like filming a new TV series.

As with the production, the new season has begun filming the Battle of Culloden in a field at Greengairs. Other locations for the show include Newtonmore's Highland Folk Museum and Doune Castle near Stirling, according to BBC. Photos of Heughan have surfaced showing the actor with a bloody face while filming the Battle of Culloden.

"Outlander" Season 3 will center on the meeting of Jamie and Claire after long years, which is expected to happen in the print shop, which was revealed in Gabaldon's book. There are speculations that Jamie and Claire may feel strange and may feel a little bit of disappointed about the changes that took place.

The Season 2 finale wrapped up showing how Jamie and Claire tried to halt the Battle of Culloden. However, after they failed, Claire was obliged to leave the past and return to the future.

No premiere date is set yet for "Outlander" Season 3, but it is more likely to be shown early in 2017.
