Loyal viewers of the show may recall that Joong Ki, who portrayed special army forces soldier Captain Yoo Si Jin, and Hye Kyo's Doctor Kang Mo Yeon encountered several challenges in the Uruk-based army detachment. The said fictional Uruk camp was filmed in Gangwon province. Several months after the KBS drama aired its final episode, the filming site was opened to local tours and visitors.

The said site recorded a tourist count of 7,810 visitors during the first 11 days of August, as stated in the same report. However, the Taebaek filming site has seen a 66 percent increase in visitors beginning Aug. 12. Nearly 13,000 tourists have travelled to the said Gangwon province location to see some of the actual filming sets used in the KBS drama.

City officials have also commented that the drama's filming location has seen around 1,000 foreign visitors from the period of April until August. More visitors and tourists are expected to travel to the Taebaek filming set in the coming months.

In other news, Joong Ki and Hye Kyo, along with Jin Goo and Kim Ji Won, have reunited in early August to record a special commentary, Soompi reported. The said commentary will be included in the drama's soon-to-be-released director's cut DVD set. Apart from the four main cast members of the show, the series' director Lee Eung Bok, as well as writers Kim Won Suk and Kim Eun Sook participated in the commentary.

The upcoming "Descendants of the Sun" special edition DVD set will include behind-the-scenes footage from the drama, never-before-seen clips and cast interviews. The director's cut DVD set has been slated for release in November.
