‘Descendants of The Sun’ Season 2 director quits KBS; Will the show be cancelled?

"Descendants of the Sun" Director PD Lee Eung Bok recently resigned from the show, and now the fans wonder if Season 2 will be canceled. However, some rumors even suggest that season 2 filming has begun already. Will the series feature the original lead couple?

PD Lee's resignation opened a Pandora's box of speculations. The "Descendants of the Sun" director resigned from the KBS network, soon after the show writer, Kim Eun Sok. Now fate of the series hangs in balance as the fans worry if the series will retail its old lead couple from season 1 - Song Joong Ki (Captain Yao Shi Jin) and Song Hye Kyo (Dr. Kang Mo Yeon).

While the fans certainly want to see their favorite lead couple, rumors already indicate that if there is a season 2, it will feature different set of characters. However, now with so many changes, fans worry about the show's cancellation.

Movie Guide reports that Season 2 will feature a new lead couple as its original cast members, Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, are already busy with their respective projects. The fans can expect to see Sergeant Seo Dae-Young (Jin Goo) and Lieutenant Yoon Myung-Joo (Kim Ji Won). While the military drama is expected to continue, but there may be a different cast.

Network department head Jung Sung revealed that "Descendants of the Sun" season 2 is planning for 2017 release, but they are still uncertain about is storyline, Soompi reported.

The network plans to keep the new season because of the phenomenal response it received from the fans all over the world. The show also went on to gain one of the highest ratings within the first quarter. It has also gained international fame in a very short period of time.

KBS is yet to release an official statement about the second season of "Descendants of the Sun." However, at this point, it is too early to speculate whether or not there will be a season 2, and if there is, what storyline it will feature.
