Samsung has officially unveiled the third generation Gear smartwatch in two models - Samsung Gear S3 Frontier and Samsung Gear S3 Classic. The specifications, features, price, release date and availability of both models have been revealed
Samsung Gear S3 Design
The South Korean company has worked with the well-known wristwatch designer, Yvan Arpa to build the Gear S3's design. It has collaborated with Arik Levy on the watch-face appearance and strap designs, Phone Arena reported. Instead of Android Wear OS, the Gear S3 models run on Tizen OS from Samsung.
The Samsung Gear S3 Frontier and Classic come with rotating bezel that was first seen on the predecessor model, Gear S2, The Gear S3 Classic has an elegant appeal and classier design. It comes in black color along with rubber straps.
The Frontier model has a sporty design and rugged appeal, Android Authority reported. It comes in silver color along with leather bands. Both models have stainless steel casing.
Samsung Gear S3 Frontier, Gear S3 Classic Specs, Features
The Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic smartwatches come with 1.30-inch S-AMOLED circular display that is enabled with Always On Display feature.
The diameter of the screen is 46 mm. The screen supports 16 million colors. The screens are shielded by the all new Gorilla Glass SR+.
Since they are IP68 certified devices, both feature dust and water resistant chassis. The Gear S3 models also feature military-grade durability indicating that these devices can withstand extreme weather conditions.
The Gear S3 models are powered by Exynos 7270 chipset that includes a 1.0 GHz dual-core processor and 768 MB of RAM. Both the devices have native storage of 4 GB.
Some of the other features of both models include barometer, altimeter, optical heart rate sensor, and Samsung Pay support. The Frontier model supports 3G/LTE, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity. The Classic model lacks 3G/LTE connectivity. Both models are equipped with 380 mAh batteries.
Samsung Gear S3 Price, Release Date, Availability
The Samsung Gear S3 models will be available for purchase from October. The Classic model is expected to be priced at $350.
The Frontier variant is expected to arrive with a costlier price. Samsung is yet to officially announce the pricing of both models.
