More than 240 Flint school children in Michigan have received backpacks with supplies this week, courtesy of the collaboration of their school and Eminem's foundation. The students screamed at one point to say thanks on Aug. 30, Tuesday, after receiving their bags in their school's auditorium on the south end of the city.
The children picked up their backpacks stuffed with folders, glue sticks, pencils, crayons and other stuff needed in class at the stage at Freeman. They then went to their seats before being dismissed back to their class, M Live reported.
The blue and orange bags were given by Vera Perry and Harold Woodson, members of the Flint Board of Education. It will be given to all pre-kindergarten to high school senior students.
The Flint Community Schools, non-profit Kids in Need Foundation and the Marshall Mathers Foundation collaborated to supply more than 5,000 bags to be given to all Flint students over the coming days. Kids in Need Foundation Executive Director Dave Smith approached rap star Eminem aka Marshall Mathers in an event last year in Detroit and the singer provided a check for the students' backpacks and supplies.
Smith also approached Eminem's foundation and got one backpack which he posted on Facebook asking for donations to aid the students in the city. The foundation hopes that every student in the district can come to school with a good start and learn.
Smith's organization believes that when students have the proper tools, it would prevent them from physically or mentally dropping out from school. They have been looking at the city and identified the challenges, particularly with students in Flint last spring.
As Eminem tries to lend a helping hand to the Fling school children, he took to Instagram and posted a photo. He encouraged others to help the children in public school system, majority of which live in poverty.

Meanwhile, many are expecting Eminem's new album but it still has no release date. Reasons for the delay could include the singer busy with the "Suicide Squad" OST, or he is performing in musical events in South America or promoting his mobile game, "Shady Wars," according to Chatt Sports Net.
