Chile suffered its third defeat in seven outings in the ongoing CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers after dropping a 1-2 upset to middling squad Paraguay on the road at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco, Asunción during the previous matchday on Sep. 1, via Goal.

Los Guaraníes' Oscar Romero and Paulo da Silva scored two quick goals at the sixth and ninth minutes in the first half to put the hosts up by two points early in the match.

Head coach Juan Antonio Pizzi's squad was then able to cut down the lead to one point with a goal from star midfielder Arturo Vidal at the 36th minute, but it was the nearest La Roja could come as both squads went scoreless in the second half.

Team captain and goalkeeper Claudio Bravo did not suit up for Chile in the said match as he is preparing with new club Manchester City for its Sep. 10 Manchester derby in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Bolivia defeated Peru, 2-0, in their Matchday 7 encounter at the Estadio Hernando Siles in La Paz also on Sep. 1 to snare its second win in the qualifiers, as per Soccerway.

Midfielder Pablo Escobar opened the scoring at the 38th minute to surprise La Blanquirroja while center back Ronald Raldes doubled the lead with two minutes left before full time to secure the win for Guillermo Angel Hoyos's team.

La Verde is now in the eighth spot of the 10-team CONMEBOL table, four points behind Chile.
