In the past decade we have finally understood why Eastern Chinese and Ayurvedic Medicine has become so popular.  This is because they promote a more natural way of preventing and curing illnesses.  More medical studies are being done on which foods are healthier for us to eat.  Among the best foods to consume on a regular basis is the turmeric plant.

On a medical report on the WH site, it is stated that turmeric has natural anti-inflammatory properties that are very potent.  Unlike the typical drugs prescribed by Western doctors, there are no toxic side-effects such as ulcer formation, intestinal bleeding or a lessened white blood cell count.  Curcumin, the yellow pigment found in turmeric has been proven to have very potent anti-inflammatory properties.

In India and China, turmeric is a very common ingredient found in their dishes.  Many Indian mothers also mix half a teaspoon of turmeric powder to milk.  They call this turmeric milk and is found to be very effective in preventing colds, cough, flu and other viral infections.

Studies from Authority Nutrition further reveal that people who suffer from diabetes should have a daily intake of turmeric.  Having this for 9 months can lessen the development of other illnesses related to diabetes.

Those who are recovering from surgery should also have turmeric, since the curcumin compounds that are found in turmeric can strengthen the immune system by reducing fatigue and can lessen the need for pain killers.

Turmeric also has powerful antioxidant effects.  It is very potent in neutralizing free radicals that are inside the body.  It strengthens the cell membranes and can effectively aid in the repair of damaged cells.  It is also great for people who are suffering from joint pains.  For people who have arthritis or rheumatism, it is more effective when turmeric is blended to make a tea.
