"Thelma and Louise" actress Geena Davis joins the cast in the frightening new TV series "The Exorcist." She will help terrify audiences in the 10-part drama.

According to Irish Examiner, Davis plays mother Angela Rance in "The Exorcist" TV series. She is plagued by recurring nightmares. She seeks spiritual aid upon ensuring that there is a demonic presence in their house growing stronger every day. Her eldest daughter Katherine (Brianne Howey from "Scream Queens") has become a recluse who refuses to leave her bedroom. Her husband Henry (Alan Ruck from Ferris Bueller's "Day Off") is slowly losing his mind.

Davis tipped in an interview at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that she would not definitely sign in to "The Exorcist" series if it is the same story as William Friedkin's classic horror film, as USA Today reported. She admitted that for her, the film is really the best horror movie ever made.

"The Exorcist" is based on the original 1973 movie of the same name. It should not be expected a remake since the series is set in Chicago 40 years after the horrific events seen in the original film. For those who were not able to watch the iconic horror film, it revolves around a young girl who has been possessed by an evil spirit. It is set in Georgetown in Washington DC.

"The Exorcist" series follows the similar events in the horror film. However, two very different priests with widely varying experiences and perspectives will deal with one family's demonic possession. Each and every family member suffers in one way or another. Davis will also star alongside "Law & Order" actor Ben Daniels as Father Marcus Keane and "The Chosen" star Alfonso Herrera as Father Thomas Ortega.

Executive producer Jeremy Slater said that the new drama "The Exorcist" will acknowledge the classic film. He added that everyone should know that the series is a continuation of an existing story. In the pilot, the iconic Tubular Bells will be featured.

"The Exorcist" series is set to broadcast on FOX in the United States and airs in the UK on Syfy in autumn. NBCUniversal International Networks is the producer.
