Beau Beech is one of the virtual unknowns trying to make it up to the NBA as will likely have to take the long road via the NBA D-League. Regardless, he hopes to follow the same path that Jeremy Lin and Tyler Johnson embarked on to fulfill a promise.

That promise has something to do with Beech’s goal of becoming the first person from North Florida to make it to the NBA ranks. He wasn’t among the fortunate ones from the last NBA Draft and ended up settling for a training camp invite, Nets Daily reported.

With no promise, Beech is keeping his head up. Though he was signed up to a partial contract with the Brooklyn Nets, he will need to prove his stock in the developmental league for now. From there, it remains to be seen if he will eventually be elevated to the pro ranks.

Just the same, his fate hasn’t dampened his outlook. He is aware of how players like Jeremy Lin and Tyler Johnson were able to work their way to the NBA. Lin came in back in 2010 but went undrafted while Johnson was passed on in 2014.

As everyone knows by now, the two made their beginnings in the D-League and are now among the top paid players in the NBA. Lin latched on with the Nets and is expected to be the starting point guard for the coming season.

Johnson showed what he could do with the Miami Heat and ended up signing a four-year $50 million contract last July. Beech hopes to come close to that as he looks up to both Lin and Johnson.

Beech is a 6-foot-9 swingman who has potential. He was a fan-favorite during the Summer League which will be the closest he can get to playing in the majors.

Jostling for a slot in the final 15 of the Nets will be an uphill climb and Beech is aware of it, Basketball Insiders reported. He still holds equal chances heading into training camp as the dream to become the first North Florida native to play in the NBA is still within reach.
