The Borussians kicked off their season with an impressive 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen but was stopped by newly-promoted side Freiburg, 1-3, in their second game held on the road at the MAGE SOLAR-Stadion last Saturday, One India reported.

Head coach André Schubert's side was able to open the scoring at the 35th minute with a left-footer from midfielder Thorgan Hazard to take a one-point lead at the halftime interval.

However, the hosts netted three goals in the second half, courtesy of a double from midfielder Maximilian Philipp at the 54th and 85th and a penalty kick from forward Nils Petersen at the 88th to hand Die Fohlen their first defeat this term.

With a split of their first two assignments, Monchengladbach is now at the 10th spot of the league table, tied on points with Freiburg, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, Augsburg, and Darmstadt.

Meanwhile, Werder Bremen is still without a win this term as they have lost all of their first two games so far.

Die Werderaner was smashed by defending champions Bayern Munich, 0-6, in their opening game before being nipped by Augsburg, 1-2, last Sunday at the Weserstadion, via ESPN.

Head coach Viktor Skrypnyk's squad actually drew first blood in the match with a successful penalty kick from American striker Aron Johansson during the first half stoppage time to enter the break ahead by one point.

However, Augsburg found the back of goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald's net twice in the second half, at the 52nd and 73rd minutes courtesy of goals from defenders Jeffrey Gouweleeuw and Kostas Stafylidis respectively, to keep Bremen winless in the season.
