"The Mask" star Jim Carrey has retaliated against the recently filed wrongful death lawsuit over the suicide of his ex-girlfriend, Cathriona White. The actor has slammed the lawsuit filed by Mark Burton, White's estranged husband, alleging that he used his wealth and status to illegally supply prescription drugs involved in her death.

"I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved," BBC quoted the 54-year-old actor as saying. "I really hope that some day soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace."

The actor further added that although it is easy for him to handle the situation with Burton's lawyer, he has to defend his honour "against the evil in this world." He also mentioned that his former girlfriend was troubled long before they met and her tragic end was beyond control.

In the documents filed with Los Angeles superior court, it is being claimed that Carrey provided the drugs for White despite knowing she was "ill-equipped" to take them. It is also mentioned that she was prone to depression and had previously tried to take her own life.

The complaint also added that after White's death, the actor took steps to conceal and stupefy his involvement in his former girlfriend's tragic death. The lawsuit also claimed that the actor had an "obsession with controlling and manipulating" White and even used surveillance cameras at her home to monitor her.

It is also alleged that the prescription drugs that caused White's death were not prescribed to her and Carrey had obtained them under the bogus name Arthur King. The complaint further added that the text that the actor reportedly sent to White asking about the whereabouts of his painkiller was actually a "bogus" one.

White was 30 years old when she died in Los Angeles in September 2015. The Irish-born make-up artist had broken up with Carrey a week before her death. She even left a suicide note addressed to the actor saying she was "just not for this world," The Guardian reported.
