History's "Vikings" Season 4 premiered on Feb. 18 this year, with episode finale airing on April 21. With the extended season, showrunner Michael Hirst announced that Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) and King Ecbert's (Linus Roache) storyline will collide when Season 4 returns on Nov. 30.
Conventionally, "Vikings" runs a maximum of 10 episodes, and therefore, when Season 4 episode 10 wrapped up with a time jump, avid fans were convinced that it would be Season 5 returning on Nov. 30. However, History Channel announced at the San Diego Comic-Con 2015 that "Vikings" Season 4 would be extended.
A press release via AE Networks confirmed that "Vikings" Season 4 would have 20 episodes. As a result, there are still 10 more episodes for the fourth installment.
Apart from confirming that "Vikings" Season 4 would return, History unveiled a synopsis for Season 4B. According to the synopsis, after being defeated in a great battle in Paris against his brother Rollo (Clive Standen), Ragnar disappeared. The show then took a huge time jump during the mid-season finale, leaping to a new period in the lives of the characters.
Ragnar's reappearance in Kattegat spurs a slew of events that only the Seer can ever imagine. He suddenly comes home to see what has become of his sons and deal with unfinished business in Wessex with King Ecbert. Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) plots a power play in Kattegat and Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) gets ready to accomplish his long-held dream to explore the Mediterranean in a sleek new boat constructed by Floki (Gustaf Starsgard).
Series creator, Hirst, as well confirmed in an interview with Variety that Ragnar and King Ecbert would collide in Season 4B. From the show, Ragnar has been disgruntled with Ecbert because of the king destroying a Vikings settlement he swore to protect.
"The storylines of Ragnar and King Ecbert coincide, finally," Hirst said. "So two of the greatest characters in the show come together and in a most extraordinary way."
Having Ragnar confront Ecbert about the destroyed Vikings settlement could lead to a fight. According to history, Ragnar died at the hand of King Aelle; however, Hirst has most likely changed the history to some extent by bringing Ragnar and Ecbert together in "Vikings" Season 4.
"Vikings" Season 4B will premiere on Nov. 30 at 9 p.m. ET. Here is footage for further information:
