After successfully airing two seasons, "Narcos" has been confirmed to renew for a third one in 2017. Although it has not yet been confirmed on what month it will air, several reports have suggested the third season will premiere either on August or September next year. As for the storyline, the next chapter will focus on the rise and fall of Cali Cartel, the drug organization who is active in drug trafficking and bribery.
Although most of the founders of the said organization have already been introduced in the past seasons, one more pillar is left unknown to viewers, Jose Santacruz Londono who is also known as "Chepe." It is expected the story for season 3 will revolve mostly on the Colombian drug organization.
For avid viewers of the show, it has been known that the TV series mostly focused on Pablo Escobar's life in a period of 15 years until the drug kingpin was finally put to rest at the end of the last season. When asked about season 3, executive producer Eric Newman confirmed they will be focusing on the story of how Cali Cartel was founded since the show has always tackled the issue of cocaine use, Entertainment Weekly reported.
When asked about the shift in setting, and whether they have considered Mexico to be another shooting location, Newman said the possibility is likely noting that there is also still more story to be told about Colombia.
The series creator also said he is viewing the upcoming season as a "schematic sequel" despite Escobar already being dead. He said the character is needed to be replaced by a more encompassing and a more sinister organization like the Cali Cartel, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
"Narcos" is an American TV series which revolves around the story of drug lord Pablo Escobar, how he came to power through the trade of illegal drugs cocaine. The story also focuses on how the protagonist interacts with key characters in the story like other drug lords, DEA agents and other entities belonging to the opposition.
